Their debut album 'I', released in September 2024 on Sound Effect Records, introduced ORKESTR to the world with a synth-driven space rock sound that was met with critical acclaim. The album was presented during two sold-out shows under the name 'GKW-I', a multimedia spectacle at a local gravel pit, where music, film and theater came together in a unique gesamtkunstwerk.
For their next major release, ORKESTR decided not to play it safe, temporarily setting synthesizers and drum machines aside. The result is 'Snowbound', a winter-themed collection of six tracks that showcases the band’s ongoing evolution and experimentation. Inspired by the instrumentation of The Beatles and Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound, and the harmonies of The Beach Boys and Simon & Garfunkel, Snowbound marks a bold departure from their earlier sci-fi-tinged sound.
As part of the Snowbound project, ORKESTR recorded music on the carillon in Sevenum, the hometown of three of the five members. This inspired a mini documentary called 'Van Os Allemaol' about this remarkable instrument, released alongside the EP. All 18 bells were also carefully sampled in the process and made available as a free downloadable MIDI instrument called 'Church Carillon', allowing musicians worldwide to create music with the unique sounds of this carillon.
ORKESTR is driven by the desire to follow their own creative course and to engage in unconventional collaborations, independent of trends or expectations. They chart their own course and remain unapologetically true to themselves.
